Jeff Herman Helps A Victim Of Abuse In The Church And Hopes To Help Others

September 7, 2018

A sexual assault is something that can be very difficult to come forward about, especially if the victim was a minor at the time of the abuse. This is particularly relevant with a large number of accusations coming out about the actions of those within the Catholic Church. For one of the survivors, Jeff Herman is doing all that he can with the help of his law firm to help him achieve a feeling of justice for what he had been through.

Jeff Herman was named “Child Advocate of the Year” by KidSafe Foundation during their 4th Annual Fundraiser. He has been referred to in the media as the “Dark Knight”, fighting for the most vulnerable victims. Herman has also been referred to as the “legal eagle” and the “Go-To-Guy” for sexual abuse lawsuits.

When his client was only 16, Reverend Francis Nave of Philadelphia began speaking to his client on a social media website aimed towards the gay community. While the interactions may have seemed innocent at first, Jeff Herman believes that Nave was using this time to gain trust in order to exploit the young teen in the future. These conversations quickly turned sexual as the Reverend coerced Jeff Herman’s client to strip on web camera and then perform mutually sexual acts. See This Article to learn more.

While the Reverend may have told Jeff Herman’s client that he was trying to help him get over past his troubles with serious depression, he doesn’t believe that this is the case at all. Jeff Herman believes that the abuse of power that Nave showed with his client is not rare in the church and something needs to be done about it. By taking this case to civil trial, Jeff Herman is able to bring attention to the deeds that were committed in order to stop them from happening again in the future. This is what his client hopes for as well.

The bravery of his client was noted by Jeff Herman. He has found that in his years of practice, it can be difficult for victims to come forward to the public with their experiences and allegations. Fortunately, the culture around sexual abuse is changing as more are being aware of the widespread problems. Jeff Herman has found that many survivors are feeling more secure with approaching others as they don’t feel like they will immediately be dismissed. This is leading to victims coming forward quickly before the statute of limitations has passed.
